The Wizard Nebula
NGC 7380
The "Wizard Nebula" (left) is a large complex of gas and dust in the constellation of Cepheus, which is embedded in the young open star cluster NGC 7380. In the center of the nebula, two huge, super hot suns ionize the gas make it glow. The distance to earth is about 7,000 light years, the diameter of the „Wizard“ is approx. 110 light years.
Nevertheless, the "Wizard" is difficult to observe visually. A larger telescope, a dark sky and a UHC filter are necessary to make it visible. This picture not only shows the wizard itself, but also his neighbors, the faint nebula Sh2-139 (right) as well as some beautiful dark clouds and lots of gas and dust around it.
